How to change the Chain on a BMX bike?

I've been wanting to do this for a very long time now, but I have no idea how to. What i mean is like, ok, you put the chain in the teeth of the sprockets then how do you join the two ends. You probably got a masterlink with your chain. It's one side of a chain with two pins coming out of it and nothing on the other side, then a flat piece with two holes and finally a U shaped flat piece that locks it all together. u take the master link off then u get u put in the bike and put the master link back on.... but if theres no master link the u cant do anything be side hit it wi a hammer.. this happend 2 me yesterday... answer my ? i put out
