You don't need anything but common hand tools. You don't need any special fan clutch tool as suggested.

The fan clutch is held on by nuts. No the timing chain doesn't need changed unless you have a zillion miles on the car and you are half way there replacing the water pump................mdHow do you replace a water pump on 1979 pontiac trans am 6.6L 403 with a/c?

not so bad most anyone can do it no special tools an dno timing belt or chain to mess withHow do you replace a water pump on 1979 pontiac trans am 6.6L 403 with a/c?
The only thing you may need is a fan clutch tool. It's two large wrenches that fit the clutch so you can back it off. Other than that it's simple hand tools. This should be one of the easiest out there to do. The timing chain doesn't have to be touched. You will only have to remove the belt, the fan clutch, the rad hoses, maybe a heater by-pass hose and the water pump. Just take your time and lay out the pieces as they came off. Also, work neat and clean and use some type of silicone sealer in addition to the water pump gasket. Good luckHow do you replace a water pump on 1979 pontiac trans am 6.6L 403 with a/c?
