I have been told that I have a timing CHAIN and that timing chains don't need to be changed. One individual said that I have a timing BELT. I realize that belts DO need to be changed. My question is: Do I have a timing BELT or CHAIN? How could I find out which one I have? Are there any websites that will allow me to enter my VIN and find the specifics of my vehicle? your vehicle has the 3400 V6 in it...this engine uses a timing belt...it is noticable by looking at the front of the motor...observe the black plastic cover over the upper 2/3's...i would also recommend that you replace your water pump along with the timing belt2000 Toyota 4Runner Limited Edition V6 2WD ~ Timing Belt or Timing Chain?
