2002 Ford F150 Noise lifter/follower No damage found! Timing Chain?

I have a 2002 Ford F150 supercab 4.6L V8 FI SOHC 16V that started making noise about a month ago it sounded really loud from the passengers side valve cover so I shut it off right away to avoid any major engine damage and the took off the valve cove to inspect it but I didn't find anything wrong with the followers/lifters but the timing chain seemed to have alot of slack could this be whats making so much noise and how much of a pian is it to change the chain? Will it eventually cause more damage or will it just be loud.Thanks2002 Ford F150 Noise lifter/follower No damage found! Timing Chain?
Well first off you may want to take it to a qualified individual. There are no lifters or followers in this engine. Its an overhead cam design. The timing chain has an automatic tensioner so if there is an exsessive amount of play in the chains that would be the place to start. IS THE CAM FLAKING OR SCORED?2002 Ford F150 Noise lifter/follower No damage found! Timing Chain?
If your timing is worn or stretched it will jump time and destroy your pistons and could do even more damage to you engine and your pocket book
