It is about a 6 hour job total and they might want to change the water pump at the same time. If something else is wrong (distributor, valves etc.) this will only be found out later. Any work like this has to have an engine oil change. That is the least of your worries. How long do it take to put a new timng chain on my 1986 oldsmobile ninety-eight and when they change the chain
how many miles is on your olds if it has high milage it is a possability and why did they think it was the timing chain,I'd like to know how they came to that conculisionHow long do it take to put a new timng chain on my 1986 oldsmobile ninety-eight and when they change the chain
I agree with the first person, that being said it is about 4 book hours also, they will have to drain the radiator so you may be charged with new anti freeze. I don't know which engine size you have and it makes a difference. If it is front wheel drive it would be about 6 hours. To give you an example - FWD 3.0 5.3 hrs engine code E - 3.8 engine code C, B, 3 (2.5 hours) 3.8 engine code 1 (3.8 hours) etc. V8 4.9L, 4.5L 3.9 hours. good luckHow long do it take to put a new timng chain on my 1986 oldsmobile ninety-eight and when they change the chain
that doesnt sound like a timing chain to me, sounds more like maybe the crank sensor went, or a fuel problem. i have a 88 olds with a 3.8, i figure yours has a 3.8 too. theres a coil pack and module on them,. i know i took mine for a ride once and came back home and when i went to start it, it wouldnt do nothing, it turned out to be the module, and it didnt show up on the check engine light either, that might be your problem too, coil pack or module.
